Invest with confidence and control.

Saving for your child's, or your grandchild's, education is much more than just another investment. It's personal. That's why IDeal gives you so much control over how your account is invested, managed and used.

Your assets are controlled by you, not your beneficiary.

The account and invested funds remain in your name and do not transfer into your beneficiary's control at any time. This means you retain the power to:

  • decide when to withdraw the funds
  • choose which qualified education costs to cover with your 529 account
  • change the beneficiary to another qualified member of the family, without incurring federal income tax or penalties1
  • receive detailed quarterly statements
  • rollover your 529 savings into an IRA if they are no longer needed for education*

You choose how your money is invested.

Everyone has different investment goals and time horizons. That's why we offer you:

  • a broad range of investment options
  • different ways to contribute
  • the ability to change your beneficiary to another qualified member of the family

You can change the direction of your future contributions at any time. Federal law permits you to move the existing assets in your IDeal account to a different mix of investment options up to two times per calendar year.

The Disclosure Statement discusses investment objectives, risks, charges, expenses, and other important information. Because investing in IDeal is an important decision for you and your family, you should read and consider the Disclosure Statement carefully before investing.

Please Note: Before you invest, consider whether your or the beneficiary’s home state offers any state tax or other state benefits such as financial aid, scholarship funds, and protection from creditors that are only available for investments in that state’s qualified tuition program. You should also consult your financial, tax, or other advisor to learn more about how state-based benefits (or any limitations) would apply to your specific circumstances. You also may wish to contact directly your home state’s 529 college savings plan(s), or any other 529 plan, to learn more about those plans’ features, benefits, and limitations. Keep in mind that state-based benefits should be one of many appropriately weighted factors to be considered when making an investment decision.

IDeal is administered by the State College Savings Program Board ("Board"). ABD, the program manager, and its affiliates, have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations, including investment advisory, recordkeeping and administrative services, and marketing.
